The Nike SB Dunk Low "Club 58" Is an Ode To the Enigmatic Skate Group
Following an early look, we now have rough release notes for the Nike (NYSE:NKE -0.72%) SB Dunk Low “Club 58.”
Digging into its archives, the upcoming release serves as a sequel to 2018’s SB Blazer Mid “Club 58” and an ode to the enigmatic skate group. Club 58 is known to the public as a collective skate group formed by Nike SB employees and shop owners, yet no really solid info about the crew is readily available.
The Nike SB Dunk Low “Club 58” features a premium theme with an upper constructed of bright blue suede accented by white leather Swooshes framed by black. “58” insignias appear on the tongue tags and embroidered at the heels to express homage to the group. Additional details include matching light blue sockliners, printed insoles, fat tongues and contrasting black laces. Finishing up the design of the shoe are pure white midsoles paired with bold orange rubber outsoles.
Priced at $100 USD, the Nike SB Dunk Low Pro “Club 58” is set to release sometime this March.
Nike releases the ultimate mecha-inspired Gundam sneakers
It’s no secret that Japan is a great place to hunt for sneakers. While there are countless sneaker stores offering the latest styles and colourways, you’ll also want to keep an eye out for special-edition releases and Japan-exclusive collaborations by big labels such as Nike and Adidas.
If you missed your chance to cop the gorgeous indigo-dyed, tabi-toed ISPA Drifters by Nike, here’s another special pair of sneakers coming your way. Nike has teamed up with Gundam to release two designs of SB Dunk Highs for the 15th anniversary of the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn series.
The new kicks even have a dedicated commercial (as seen above). In the anime, Olympic gold medallist skateboarder Yuto Yorigome and American skateboarder Paul Rodriguez take on the role of Gundam pilots.
The white sneakers are the SB Dunk High in ‘Project Unicorn White’, which are inspired by the series protagonist Banagher Links and his RX-0 Unicorn Gundam in Destroy Mode. The shoes are constructed with a white leather upper and feature black and red accents.
Nike's iconic swoosh also gets a revamp – it now looks like the horns on the Unicorn Gundam. Better yet, the swoosh is interchangeable, meaning it can be removed and re-attached with velcro. The kicks also come with additional decals for you to personalise your shoes.
The second pair, the SB Dunk High in ‘Banshee’, follows a darker theme and is modelled after the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee piloted by Riddhe Marcenas. The sneakers are constructed of black leather with obsidian overlays as well as metallic orange and rose gold accents.
On this pair, the removable Nike swooshes are gold in colour. And just like the white pair, this edition also comes with additional decals.
The sneakers are priced at ¥13,200 and are now on sale at selected Nike SB retailers in Japan. Online orders via Nike SNKRS will be available on Monday September 27.
Release Reminder: Don't Miss the Nike SB Dunk High "Strawberry Cough"!
If you missed the first drop last month, Nike is giving you another chance to cop the truly legendary Nike SB Dunk High "Strawberry Cough"! First unveiled all the way back in April 2020, it was faced with some major delays due to the coronavirus pandemic. If you need a pair in your personal collection then make sure you set your alarms and mark your calendars as it's set to drop at 8am on November 6th!
Taking inspiration from the marijuana strain of the same name, the "Strawberry Cough" is one of the most unique Dunks to drop this year. The front half of the shoe is influenced by the fruit complete with stippling, while the ankle and heel nods to Devil's Grass. A complementary suede Swoosh shoots across the lateral and medial side panels.
The Nike Air midsole has been given a completely see-through makeover for an icy aesthetic, and to round it all off a strawberry illustration is stitched onto the heel. This is the work of iconic Californian artist Todd Bratrud who has previously worked with Nike on a number of occasions, with the last time being the Nike SB Dunk High "Send Help 2" from 2013.
The Nike SB Dunk High "Strawberry Cough" is set for a November 6th release some fifteen months after they were originally meant to drop. Let us know if you'll be grabbing a pair tomorrow, and be sure to keep it locked at The Sole Supplier for your best chance to cop! In related news, the Nike Dunk High "Moon Fossil" is a neutral masterpiece!
